Storz connections - used as both Fire Department Connections and hose fittings - offer what is widely viewed as a safer alternative to threaded couplings. The main benefit to using a Storz connection is that connecting fire hoses is very quick. Generally, a fire hose can be locked using it with a 1/4 turn. In contrast, locking hoses using threaded couplings will often take several turns.
